Canadian environment minister John Baird is the second in a series of embarrassments -- great for cartoonists, crappy for the planet. The previous incarnation of the Spirit of Greenwashing was in the body of one Rona Ambrose, the subject of a couple of Weltschmerz cartoons about two years ago.
The above cartoon started as a visual idea, inspired by many photos of Baird in full rant. He seems to be angry whenever a camera is around, mouth impossibly wide. Halifax Daily News cartoonist Michael deAdder did this rendition of Baird as the Incredible Hulk. Perfect. (You can see more of his work at deadder.net.)
So, the cartoon wrote itself around Baird as the chaos-theory butterfly half-way around the world, creating a hurricane. Below, the rough sketches that started the process.
