Here in Canada, we've got what the Burmese people were gunned down for demanding -- a democracy. Ours is creaky and crippled by its 18th-century, first-past-the-post mechanics. But it still does offer the people some influence on the powerful.
That is, if the people decide to use it. True, it's flawed. But that's no excuse for not voting. Especially when we've had weeks of news about people dying for the right we have -- the right 48 percent of Ontarians didn't exercise this month.
Or are the Burmese dying for the right not to vote, but to have that option open if they ever can be bothered to leave their Halo or Second Life or Facebook or…?
