I had written this cartoon but wasn't happy with the punchline. It was structured without Horst's outburst, ending with "the devil is in the details," then falling flat. But as my deadline neared, the wildfires in Greece hit in the news. That gave Horst the perfect rant. The rest just flowed from that.
Sometimes cartoons just work out that way, waiting for the right world event to come along and give them extra punch (or unashamed silliness). Next week's cartoon will be another example of this. Below is a glimpse of the pencil sketch stage on my drawing board.
