Frank's NDP joke (and the fact that Horst believed it) refers to how the NDP was intent to bring down the Liberals at the last election, to hell with the consequences. Consequence #1 was a Harper government that furthers an agenda far removed from that of the NDP. Although the NDP had seen an opportunity to increase its number of seats and influence, it was a gamble that didn't pay off. While the NDP has more seats now, its influence was far greater under the old parliament.
With Enron's Ken Lay put behind bars last week (this article details the process), I was reminded of a cartoon I did back when the Enron corruption scandal erupted in the news. Lay was a close ally of Bush and I was skeptical we'd ever see him go down.
